Product Focus

Floor and Concrete Repair

RetroPlate from Advanced Floor Products has been utilized to repair existing concrete and cementitious terrazzo floors, and has been specified and applied in middle schools, high schools and colleges. The product offers increased light reflectivity and enhances the use of natural daylighting. Floors that have undergone the company's concrete polishing will not support combustion, so they will not produce toxic fumes or smoke. The product, a water-based sodium silicate, works by chemically interacting with the calcium hydroxide in the cement component of concrete. The system can be utilized with old and new concrete, acid stains and dyes, integral colors, dry shake hardeners and cementitious terrazzo.

Fluorescent Ballasts

American Ballast has introduced a new line of electronic fluorescent ballasts. Designed for commercial office, retail, distribution warehouses and industrial high bay lighting applications, the T5 and T5/HO electronic ballasts address the need for more efficient and higher light output systems. The ballast design offers energy savings and is compatible with many types of lighting control systems. The product family meets FCC rules and regulations and ANSI requirements, and complies with all applicable state and federal efficiency standards. The company's lighting solutions are UL and CuL Listed.

Airflow Analysis

Flovent software from Flomerics Inc. simulates the flow of air through a structure and helps illustrate 3D airflow patterns, including velocities and distributions of variables, such as pressure and temperature. The product is a computational fluid dynamics software that predicts 3D airflow, heat transfer and contamination distribution in and around buildings of all types and sizes.

Waste Disposal

United Receptacle has recently become a member of the U.S. Green Building Council. The company manufactures steel products that contain more than 30% recycled steel, aluminum products that contain up to 70% recycled aluminum, and Perma-Wood products that are made from 100% recycled polyethylene. The company's products are powder-coated with Uni-Koat, which contains no VOCs. According to the company, using its products can help a building achieve LEED credits. In addition, it offers a line of recycling receptacles which also may help projects earn LEED credits.

Roofing Systems

Flex Membrane International offers thermoplastic single-ply and multi-ply roofing systems utilizing DuPont’s Elvaloy KEE (ketone ethylene ester). The roofing systems have reflectivity and emissivity (heat release) values that lower roof and building temperatures. According to the company, these white roof membranes meet or exceed the requirements to qualify for credits under the LEED rating system. The roof system may be applicable to LEED categories for sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, and materials and resources. The manufacturer also offers a line of roof accessories, including all metal components, welding equipment, pre-formed flashing and walkways, and environmentally friendly adhesives.
