Ventilation Fan

The 12 foot to 20 foot Element fan by Big Ass Fans moves large volumes of air, reducing energy costs and enhancing personal comfort in a variety of education settings, according to the company.

Eco-Friendly Cluster Seating

Arconas Corp. manufactures durable, ergonomically sound and versatile cluster seating.

Recycled Modular Carpet

Tandus unveiled Ethos for modular carpet at Greenbuild 2009, a new technology that uses industrial waste from windshields and safety glass to create modular carpet backing. Tandus is the first company to reclaim the material that previously had no commercial end-of-life applications, according to company officials.

Carbon-Neutral Carpeting

The Ghost Artist carpet line from Milliken draws inspirations from architectural designs that use grid overlays, curvilinear components and geometry to create striking changes to boxy profiles. The carbon-neutral product comes with an optional bio-based backing and adhesive-free installation to prevent off-gassing. It also meets several environmental certification standards.

Fluorescent Ballasts

American Ballast has introduced a new line of electronic fluorescent ballasts. Designed for commercial office, retail, distribution warehouses and industrial high bay lighting applications, the T5 and T5/HO electronic ballasts address the need for more efficient and higher light output systems. The ballast design offers energy savings and is compatible with many types of lighting control systems. The product family meets FCC rules and regulations and ANSI requirements, and complies with all applicable state and federal efficiency standards. The company's lighting solutions are UL and CuL Listed.

Sun Shades

Tubelite Inc. recently introduced MaxBlock Sunshades to reduce solar heat gain by shading vision glass areas while allowing natural daylighting. Use of the sunshades can help lower building cooling costs and energy use attributed to air-conditioning. The sunshades are designed for use with Tubelite 200 Series and 400 Series curtainwalls and are available in a variety of styles. Finishes are available to match or contrast with the company’s curtainwall framing. Three outrigger types with corresponding louver styles and facia caps are available – airfoil, Z-blade and tubular. Each type can be extended from the building in projections of 20 inches, 25 inches, 30 inches and 35 inches to provide the desired shade performance. Blades are attached to the outriggers using simple screw spline connections.

Low-Flow Urinals

Sloan Valve Company introduces a series of high-efficiency vitreous china urinals that utilize one pint of water to flush, which contribute to LEED credits 3.1 and 3.2 for water reduction.

Exit Signs

Dual-Lite introduces the SCWL series of wet location-listed exit signs. Featuring corrosion-resistant 0.42-inch thick aluminum construction and a 0.125-inch thick polycarbonate face shield, the signs are secured with vandal-resistant stainless hardware. Offered in AC-only or battery back-up emergency use models, the series is available with red or green letters and single- or double-face configurations. An LED light provides consistent illumination, and breakout chevron arrows provide path of egress directional programming. A canopy is included for surface-, ceiling- and end-mounting, and an optional heater for battery-equipped models that increases the range of operational temperatures is available.

Hand Dryer

Mitsubishi Electric HVAC Advanced Products Division recently updated its high-speed Jet Towel hand dryer with a built-in, energy efficient heater. The product never comes in contact with hands, increasing sanitary conditions, and takes between five and six seconds to dry hands, according to the manufacturer. It is available in a 120V model and installation requires no reinforcement. Water from the user's hands is collected in the unit's drain tank, keeping bathroom floors dry. It will automatically shut off after 30 seconds of use and can be mounted at any level.

Lighting Controls

The Vari-Ballast Control lighting control from IEPC Corp. uses on-site, remote and aggregate Web-based controls to provide customers with energy-efficient lighting. The control reduces the number of ballasts and amount of rewiring necessary to install a standard fluorescent system. The lighting is a stand-alone energy management system that reduces the demand on power in real time. The control can replace magnetic ballasts, timers, relays, control panels and the wiring required to connect each lighting fixture to all other external parts as well as the control panel. Microprocessors regulate current flow and dimming and timing controls feature thermal monitoring.
