NEW YORK — Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) 2012 survey of the Top 100 Green Design Firms recognized firms from around the country, including San Francisco-based URS Corp, who ranked number one on this year’s list.
The list reflects the growth in green building and the numbers serve as evidence to the increased interest in sustainable design. The Top 100 Green Design Firms generated $4.5 billion in design revenue in 2011 from projects registered with and actively seeking certification from third-party ratings groups, such as LEED, according to ENR.
The revenue is a 20.4 percent increase over the $3.7 billion recorded for those firms recognized in 2010, according to ENR. In the U.S., green design revenue rose 19.4 percent, to $3.9 billion. The previous year was recorded at $3.3 billion, according to ENR.
“It is impressive to see that the design revenue for building projects seeking third-party certification has increased by 20 percent over the previous year — especially in a year when the industry experienced a significant decline in revenue,” said Kirk Teske, HSK’s chief sustainability officer, in a statement made by the firm.
HSK was ranked tenth on the list and only looking to move up, especially with new design standards in the industry being implemented in the coming years, including LEED Version 4.
“These changes and an increased focus on actual measured building performance improvements will significantly raise industry standards,” Lemke said in statement.
Along with the Top 100 Green Design Firm recognitions, ENR also announced 15 other lists recognizing design firms, contractors and program managers for their successful projects.
